Getting Away

Leaving home is important.  It really matters a lot.

This weekend my favorite person and I took a little trip.  We went to nearby Bloomington, Indiana for an overnight.  Why?  Why not?  There are so many good reasons to get away.

My birthday is coming up this week and Bob wanted me to choose a spot to go.  I love Bloomington.  We did some geocaching and ate lunch at a favorite spot (Quaff On--try their hoppy wheat named Yellow Dwarf, you won't be sorry!)  We walked in circles and circles, around and up and down and around some more to find a letterbox hybrid geocache on IU's campus.  We saw a deer run through campus.  We had a great time cooling off in Monroe County's Historical Museum and did a puzzle geocache there.  We stayed in a decent hotel and took the long way home by geocaching through some pretty rural cemeteries.  It was a wonderful 2 days away from the regular.

Was it perfect?  No, I got a blister on my heel after walking in the wrong socks and shoes on campus.  Bob wrenched his knee.  I had hot coffee spilled on my back in a crowded hotel breakfast room this morning.  I know I drove Bob crazy trying to make up my mind.  And yet...

There is something perfect about being away.  We look at each other differently when we're away.  We don't think about our jobs or household tasks that need attention.  We live in the moment.  What do you really want to do right now?  And that's what we do.  It's wonderful, whether we are staying in a hotel in a favorite city, staying with friends or family, or staying in our camper by the lake.  It's really important to get away.

Where do you go when you get away?  What do you like to do?
